Creating categories

Head over to MyBlog (URL) and log in with your UAL username and password

Open the dashboard of your blog using the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click your blog title, or hover over the title and select Dashboard.

In the left-hand menu, select Posts then Categories

Enter a name for the new category you’d like to create (this can be changed later)

Adding a post to a category

Open the dashboard of your blog using the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click your blog title, or hover over the title and select Dashboard.

In the left-hand menu, select Posts then All posts

Click the title of the post you’d like to add a category to. This will open the post editor.

In the Settings menu (right-hand side of your post) click the Post tab

Scroll down to the Category section (open if needed by clicking the box)

Check the box next to the category you’d like to add the post to. (You can also uncheck the Uncategorised option here if it doesn’t apply)

Click the Publish button to save your changes (or Save Draft if you’re still in draft mode)

Managing categories

Categories can be managed from the Categories page in your blog’s Dashboard.

Open the dashboard of your blog using the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click your blog title, or hover over the title and select Dashboard.

In the left-hand menu, select Posts then Categories

Click on a category title in the categories table to open the editing options

Make the updates you need to the category. You can re-name it, or make changes to it’s parent category

Quick edits for categories

Categories for posts can also be changed quickly in the Posts area of your Dashboard. This is an easier method for making changes to lots of posts without opening the post editor.

Open the dashboard of your blog using the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click your blog title, or hover over the title and select Dashboard.

In the left-hand menu, select Posts then All posts

Hover your cursor over the table row for the post you’d like to update

Click Quick edit

Check or un-check the boxes next to any categories you’d like to add or remove.

Sub-categories

Sub-categories can be created inside categories. These can be used to create additional levels of distinction within a category. For example, you could have a category for a course unit (Unit 1), then sub-categories for separate work within that unit (case studies, research).

Sub-categories are created in the same way as categories.

Open the dashboard of your blog using the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click your blog title, or hover over the title and select Dashboard.

In the left-hand menu, select Posts then Categories

Enter a name for the new sub-category you’d like to create (this can be changed later)

Select the parent category from the categories dropdown

Click Create new category

Using categories for navigation

Category links can be used for navigating your blog. Post categories will be displayed with your posts, users can click these to be shown all posts within a category.
